November Side Hustle Income Report: How I Made $1,552.50 Last Month

We are a family of four living off of one income.  When I left my job in a booming medical field to become a stay-at-home mom, I knew that money would be very tight.  After much research and trial and error, I have found real ways to earn extra cash from home and on the side.

This is my first income report on this new blog.  I started this blog in October 2019 and I will continue to show updated income reports each month.

My income reports will include the different side hustles that I use to earn money at home.

Why would I show my income report to strangers on the internet?

1. To keep myself accountable and to push me to reach my goals.
2. To show you that it is possible to make money from home and inspire you to do the same.

Working from home has transformed our lives for the better.  Having the extra income every month has been a major relief because at first, we were living paycheck-to-paycheck.

Here’s my side hustle income report from November 2019.

1. VIPKID – $800

I have cut back a lot on VIPKID this month.  I have been teaching with them since April 2018.

I taught less classes because I wanted to focus on this blog and my new job with Lionbridge.

There are other teachers who are making $1,800 + with this side hustle by working only 3 hours a day.

The pay for this side hustle is $18-22/hour.  VIPKID is an online teaching platform (similar to Skype) that connects American and Canadian English teachers with young students in China.

Each lesson is one-on-one and done through live, online video streaming.  The lesson plan is already developed by the company, and you just help the student with their English.

The best news is that you don’t need any teaching credentials to get this job.  All you need is a bachelor’s degree (in any field!)

They also require 1 year of experience with children.  This is important to include on your application or else you will not make it pass the initial review.

This experience can include homeschooling, teaching, mentoring, tutoring, coaching, working or volunteering in childcare, being a camp counselor, or even being a Sunday school volunteer at your local church.

The job is so much fun and you really get to develop a great relationship with these kids that are across the world from you.

You can make your own schedule and take time off whenever you need to.

If you have kids or a full-time job, this is a great side gig because the hours are in the early morning or late evenings.  So you can work around your full-time job, or while your kids are asleep.

2. Lionbridge – $544

This is my newest side hustle.  I evaluate search engine results and landing pages for a popular and well-known search engine.

The pay is lower than teaching English online at $14/hour.  But the job is relatively easy and can be done with my kids sitting right next to me.

You are able to work up to 20 hours a week, and set your own schedule. I usually work on and off throughout the day when I get some down time.

Lionbridge and Appen both offer these positions which are called “raters,” as well as ad evaluation, social media evaluation, and other similar hourly positions.

3. Rakuten – $7.50

Rakuten is a cash back program.  I downloaded their browser extension on my laptop.  Now whenever I am doing any online shopping, if there is a promo code, coupon, or percent % off for that store, the extension blinks.  Then it will automatically add the savings before I checkout.

The great part is that it finds promo codes and coupons around the web and will apply them for you, so you don’t have to hunt for those codes.

They also offer hundreds of stores with cash back, including Amazon, Target, Walmart, Kohl’s, and so many more.

If you already do a lot of online shopping like me, then you will save a lot of money by just simply using Rakuten.  The savings really add up when you are shopping for birthdays, holidays, and big ticket items.

If you did a lot of your Christmas shopping online using Rakuten, you would earn a ton of your money back!  I love it.

4. Teachers Pay Teachers – $29.27

Teachers Pay Teachers is a website that I use to find lesson plans and other teaching resources for my kids and online students.

Recently I begin making my own worksheets, printables, and rewards for school and online teaching.  Whenever I make one, I will add it to my store on Teachers Pay Teachers.

I don’t focus on this venue of income too much, but do see some money come from this source.  It tends to pick up around the holidays when I make resources related to the season.

5. Etsy – $4.00

Etsy is an online marketplace that you can join to open your own store.  They sell a wide variety of items such as jewelry, clothing, printables, toys, etc.

I have a few items (digital printables) posted on my Etsy shop, but I never update it anymore.  I rarely make any sales from there.  But I do have some that trickle in throughout the year.

Starting an Etsy shop has the potential to earn a lot of money.  It is a great side hustle for a lot of people.

6. Consignment shops – $54

I have this bad habit of saving most of my kids’ clothing when they outgrow it.  With two boys, I have always saved my oldest son’s clothing for my youngest.  I had also saved my youngest’s clothing.

However, we have decided not to have any more children so I have started to slowly go through the clothing I have stashed in our garage in buckets.

I only have saved the gently used clothing so most of it is still in great condition.  I took 3 different loads of clothes and old toys down to the local children’s consignment shop this month.

If you have gently used or almost new clothing or toys, you can check out consignment shops such as “Plato’s Closet,” “Once Upon a Child,” “Moonbabies,” or others to sell your items to.

You will not make a lot from this side hustle but it will also help you clear out your home.  Whatever we aren’t able to sell, we always donate.

7. Garage sale: $35

With Christmas approaching, I always like to go through our house and try to get rid of things before we get new stuff for the holidays.

We had a small garage sale to sell clothes, toys, shoes, and other trinkets.  We only made about $35 but every little bit adds up in the end.

8. Google Adsense – $6.59

This is how much I made this month with Google Adsense, which is the advertisements that I use on my blog.  It’s not enough to cash out, though.

Google Adsense is a great company to start with as a new blogger until you build a solid audience.  Then it’s recommended to go with a company such as Adthrive or Mediavine, because the pay out is better.

9. Amazon Associates – $2.00

Amazon Associates is one of the affiliate companies that I use on my blogs.  You can recommend any product that you would find on Amazon.com through this program.

You will receive a small commission (at no extra cost to the user) if they purchase something through one of your links.

10. Flex Offers – $5.14

I’m so excited that some of my affiliate links are being used already.  I made a small amount through Flex Offers.

Flex Offers has some great programs that I recommend regularly such as:

• DoorDash – get paid to deliver groceries and food
• Postmates – get paid to deliver groceries and food
• Swagbucks – earn money and gift cards by taking surveys and watching videos
• Rover – get paid to play with dogs
• Credit Karma – sign up to monitor your credit score – completely free. I have been monitoring my credit report for years through their website at no cost.

11. Bluehost – $65

I was so excited to make my first sale with Bluehost. Bluehost is the hosting company that I have used for years for my blogs.  It has excellent customer service and up time.

When you make a blog, it’s so important to use a self-hosted platform instead of a free blogging service such as WordPress.com or Tumblr.

Using a self-hosted site such as Bluehost gives you all the rights to your website.  This means you can run ads, customize your website, and make any changes that suits you.

If you used a free platform then you will not have any of those rights.  They will not allow you to run any ads (instead they will be running ads through your website), you will be limited on the design and plugins for your website, and they can shut down your blog at any time for any reason.

That’s why it’s always important to start your blog with a hosting site.  We may be biased, but we think Bluehost is the best.

Expenses this Month

1. Bluehost – $0 (Billed annually)
2. Tailwind – $14.99 -Tailwind helps us grow our traffic by automating our posts to Pinterest.  It’s great because you can schedule as many pins as you want (I usually schedule 50-100/day) and they will pin them for you at different times during the day when you’ll see the most growth.You can also pin to different “tribes” which is just like Pinterest group boards (but easier to join!).  My traffic has gone up tremendously since I signed up for Tailwind.  I still pin manually when I feel like it during the day but it’s a relief to not be chained to my phone pinning all day long.If you’re interested in trying out Tailwind, they offer a free trial for 30 days.

4. Work extra hours for Lionbridge.
5. Create a blog post at least twice a week.
