8 Benefits of working remotely

1.  The ability to work from anywhere

When you are working remotely, you have the ability to work from anywhere.  That means you can work from home, but that you could also work from a local coffee shop, your hotel on your next vacation, or anywhere in the world!

Being able to travel while still earning an income is a major perk of the remote work lifestyle. That means you can jet off on vacation for a week, and work from the sandy beaches of Hawaii.

The remote work lifestyle is perfect for:

Those who prefer to work from a local coffee shop rather than an office,
Those who want to work from home to be there for their kids or for seniors they care for,
Those who want to become digital nomads and travel the world,

Those who want to buy a RV and travel the country,
Those who want to to earn an income while homeschooling their kids,
Those who want to find a stay-at-home mom job,
Military families who move frequently,
Those who want more flexibility and freedom in their life,

Or anyone who doesn’t want to go to a 9-5 job in an office.

2.  Remote jobs offer more flexibility and freedom

One of the best benefits of working remotely is that you have the ability to create your own schedule and that you are in control of your day.

That means you can wake up earlier, or stay up later at night to do your work instead of working in that neat little 9-5 time bubble.

Some of the perks of having this freedom is being able to do things such as scheduling doctor appointments, working around your kids’ school schedules, running to the grocery store in the middle of a workday, etc.

You have the freedom to live life on your terms as long as your work is getting done.

3.  Working remotely means less stress

According to a survey taken by Owl Labs, 84% of employees said they would be happier if they could continue to work from home at least part-time after the pandemic.

Why do remote workers experience less stress?  While being in an office might help some thrive, such as extroverts, others may feel more uneasy.

Remote workers report feeling happier due to avoiding office politics, having less distractions, being able to spend more time with family, and working in their own personal, quiet space.

4.  Remote workers have a better work/life balance

Due to their flexible schedule and working in a less stressful environment, those who work remotely have a better work/life balance.

That means they can spend more time in the gym working out and less time sitting in traffic on the commute to work.

They can be at home for the plumber to stop by, and make it to their daughter’s ballet recital.

They can balance their job and their home life easier than those who are working outside of their homes 40+ hours a week because they have more freedom.

5.  Remote workers and employers save money

Remote workers save money by working from home.  Working from anywhere means that they don’t have to spend money on gas to drive to and from the office everyday.

They don’t have to spend money on work attire. They can save money on eating breakfast and lunch at home everyday instead of ordering take out or grabbing a coffee on the way in to work.

They may even be able to save money on childcare costs by working around theirs kids’ schedules, and by being able to pick them up from school everyday.  (Though, those with kids under the age of 5 may still require childcare depending on the nature of their jobs.)

But not only do remote workers save money, but employers do as well.  They can expect to find savings on rent and utilities, cleaning services, and other office expenses.

6.  Remote workers are more productive

A survey by ConnectSolutions found that one of the benefits of working remotely is that it can increase productivity up to 77%.  With more freedom to work when they want, remote employees can work at times when they are most focused, and therefore can accomplish more work in less time.

7.  Remote work is better for the environment

According to the 2017 State of Telecommuting in the U.S. Employee Workforce report, remote workers can help to lower greenhouse gas emissions.

Those who work from home no longer have to commute to work every day which helps more cars stay off the road leading to a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.

8.  Remote work gives you time to pursue other interests

Another benefit of remote work that shouldn’t go unmentioned is that your newfound freedom gives you the ability to pursue other interests and goals.

While you are making better use of your time to complete your work everyday, you will find that you have more time for your own projects and goals.

Maybe you want to rent a RV and travel while you work.  Many people dream of living on the road and seeing the world.

Maybe you want to start your own business.  As a remote worker, you will have more freedom to pursue education and more time to work on your own projects on the side of your full-time job.

The benefits of working remotely greatly outweigh any disadvantages.
