The first thing you should do is see if there are any expenses you can cut from your budget each month to save more money.  Find 25 things to stop buying to save money for ideas on what changes to make.

Combine some smaller side jobs to make an extra $1000 a month:

There are a few side hustles that I recommend to make extra cash each month, but it is unlikely that you will earn $1,000 a month from doing them by themselves alone.

However, by combining a few of them, you can easily make a $1000 a month.  If you are like me, you might also like having a variety of odd jobs to do instead of focusing on one task.

Donate plasma

Did you know that you can make up to $300 a month by donating plasma?

When you get your blood drawn, they will use a centrifuge to separate the yellow liquid portion which is the plasma from the remainder of the blood.  The plasma contains water, salts, enzymes, along with proteins such as albumin and fibrinogen, clotting factors, and antibodies.*

There are a lot of spammy survey sites out there and the most reliable ones I have found that pay are Survey Junkie and Swagbucks.  If you sign up for both of them, you will have more surveys available to you each month to earn money from.

Rover matches pet caregivers with those who are looking for help with their beloved animals.

By working for Rover, you can make money by walking dogs, checking in on pets at their homes while their owners are gone, offering pet boarding services, or pet-sitting an animal.

If you love animals, then this could be a great way to earn extra cash to reach that extra $1000 a month.  You most likely won’t make an extra 1k a month from doing this alone, but it will help you get there.

Deliver food for DoorDash

As a DoorDash dasher you will be picking up food orders for customers and delivering it to their house.

DoorDash is available in the U.S., Canada, and Australia. To become a DoorDash driver, you need to be 18+, and have a valid mode of transportation. (This can be a car, scooter, or bicycle).

You can choose when you want to work and set your own hours, making it a flexible way to earn extra money.

You can work in any location that DoorDash operates in.  This means you can work in your hometown, or even while you are out of town on vacation.

To become a dasher, you must have a valid driver’s license and pass a background check.

With no car inspections, as soon as your application is approved you can start working right away using their app.

You can pick and choose your deliveries based on how much you will make for each dash.

Shop for Instacart 

Instacart customers can order their groceries, products, or alcohol online through their app or website.

The demand for Instacart shoppers has risen due to the pandemic.  I started using Instacart to order my groceries back in March 2020, and I haven’t looked back.

Not only is it safe and convenient, but I save both time and money by ordering my groceries through them.  It is easier to stay on budget by shopping through their website and not picking up impulse buys at the store.

As a shopper for Instacart, you can choose to work as a full service shopper that will also make deliveries to the customer’s home, and receive a tip from the customer.

Or you can choose to just be an in-store shopper and get paid hourly.  These shoppers do not make deliveries but do the shopping at the store for the customer.

Instacart shoppers can be paid immediately after they shop and can create their own schedule.  While both in-store shoppers and full-service shoppers have the ability to earn $1,000 a month depending on how many hours they work, those that do deliveries have the potential to earn the most.

I typically tip my shoppers $15-20 for each shopping trip depending on the distance to the store and the number of items I need.  Shoppers are able to choose which jobs they want, and they can see the tip amount ahead of time.

So if you became a full-service shopper and earned $15+ tips, you would need to do about 17 shopping trips a week to make $1,000 a month.

The great thing about becoming a nanny is that many families will allow you to bring your own child with you, which means if you are a stay-at-home mom, you can stay with your child while you work.

As a nanny for a family, you will watch one or more children while the parent(s) works.  They may have you do light housekeeping, food prep, school pickup, or help with homework, as well.

With daycare costs higher than ever, many families are willing to pay someone that they can trust to do the job at their house.

If you can find a family with more than one child to watch, the earning potential will be higher.  If you add in a few babysitting jobs as well, you could make $1000 in a month.

When you flip a product, you buy it at a low cost then sell it at full price, keeping the difference as profit.

I have a friend that will buy brand name items on sale for dirt cheap from places such as Kohl’s, and then turn around and sell it online for full price.

She has made enough money doing this that she has been able to stay at home with her son for years as a single parent.

This couple now makes $133k flipping products that they have bought from yard sales, thrift stores, and flea markets.

Become an Amazon Flex driver and make an extra $1000 a month

Amazon now offers a program called Amazon Flex.  This lets you sign up to be a driver that delivers Amazon packages using your own vehicle.

Amazon quotes this job as making anywhere from $18-25/hour.  You can choose your own hours, and work whenever you want.

You sign up for your shifts in advance, or choose them the day of, based on your own availability.

At $25/hour, you could make $1000 per month by working 10 hours a week.

Mow lawns and do yard work to make $1000 a month

In my neighborhood in northeast Florida, we pay our lawn guy $35 to cut our lawn.  He will cut it twice a month.

We also have a guy who comes up to trim our bushes from time to time and we pay him $25.  We recently paid another guy $50 to pressure wash the side of our house.

Yard maintenance covers so many different parts of lawn care, and there is potential to earn good money taking care of your customers’ lawns.

We pay our lawn guy $70 a month right now.  He comes twice a month.  Many companies charge by the size of your lawn.  You can earn anywhere from $20 up to $80 depending on the size of the lawn that needs to be cut.

So if you estimate that you can make at least $30 per lawn – you would need to cut 34 lawns over the course of a month to make an extra $1,000 a month.  That means 8-9 lawns a week, which is completely doable.

If you can trim bushes, you can charge even more.  If you know how to pressure wash, you can also add in that as an extra service.

This is a great way to make an extra $1,000 a month, and it’s also a good idea for teens to make extra money on the weekends or during the summer.

Blogging is a great way to make money online doing something you love.  Blogging has allowed me to stay at home with my kids and make extra money from home.

I have 3 blogs, including this one which is my newest.  I love sharing tips and ideas with other people on the things I care about, and helping others through my content.

After being a working mom for 7 years, I left my job in the medical industry to stay at home with my kids and never looked back.  As much as I loved being home with my kids, I knew I wanted to still make money because I enjoy working.

There are a few ways to make money from blogging.  You can make money from having advertisements on your website, sponsored posts, selling your own products or courses, or through affiliate marketing.

The best part about starting a blog is that it’s relatively inexpensive to get started at only $3.95/mo.  You just need to choose your niche (topic you will be focusing your posts on) and own a computer.

I have tried many work at home jobs but blogging has been my favorite and the most lucrative.  I love being able to work around my kids’ schedule and having the extra money to travel and do fun things with my kids.

It’s a lot of hard work, and you have to put in the hours but if you want to know how to make 1000 a month online (or more), you can definitely achieve that with blogging.

How to Start a Blog for Beginners

Teach English online to make $1000 a month from home

Teaching English online is another great way to make extra money from home.  I started working as an online English teacher in April 2018, and was able to make an extra $1000 a month from this side hustle alone.

While teaching English online may seem intimidating to those without a teaching certification, it is actually much easier than you think. 

Teaching English online does require that you have a Bachelor’s degree (it can be in any subject – my degree is in Psychology!).

It also requires that you have at least a year of experience in some form of teaching (this can be through mentoring, coaching, tutoring, child care, homeschooling, teaching, being a cub scout/girl scout leader, volunteering with kids at Sunday school, etc.).

It’s imperative to mention your experience in your application in order to move on to the hiring process.

As an online English teacher, you will teach young foreign language learners that range from 4-13 years old.  You do not need to know their native language in order to teach English online!  All of the lessons are immersive – this means that you will teach in English for the entire class.

Online ESL (English as a Second Language) teachers can earn up to $22/hour.  You have the ability to create your own schedules, and will typically teach in the mornings or evenings through a platform similar to Zoom.

You do not need to create any lesson plans – everything is already laid out for you.  I have worked with VIPKid and Qkids and highly recommend these companies.

I have tried many different online jobs, and working as an online English teacher has many pros compared to other work from home jobs.

Some of their pros are the flexibility to choose your own schedule, high pay, the relationships you make with the students, and being able to get all of your work done in the morning or evening and be done for the rest of the day.

You can also work when your children are asleep which is a major perk for stay-at-home parents.

VIPKid does have a thorough hiring process, but don’t let that intimidate you.

I applied to VIPKid in November 2017 and was too intimidated to begin the second part of the hiring process until April 2018.  Once I did and became hired, I was so grateful that I took the leap of faith in myself and applied.

Qkids’ hiring process is a bit faster and easier to get through.  Once you are hired with them, they will immediately add you to the schedule based on your availability.  VIPKid requires you to create a profile and choose your availability, then the parents choose you for their child based on that profile.

Teaching these students put a smile on my face every morning and started my day on a great note.  I loved building relationships with them and also loved the idea that I was making a difference in these kids’ lives.

You may want to guest post on blogs for free at first in order to have samples of your work available.

Then reach out to other bloggers, as well small businesses and companies and offer your services to them. You could also apply to writing gigs on job boards such as Problogger or Blogging Pro.

You could also search on Google for a topic you feel comfortable writing about, such as parenting or mental health.  Your search would look like this: “parenting + write for us.”  This will bring up websites and publications that are looking for writers in your field.

A transcriptionist takes audio and videos and transcribes the content into text for a client or business. They should have good grammar, spelling, and punctuation.

Dropshipping allows you to sell a product without keeping any products in stock. Your online store will promote and sell products, but a third-party supplier will keep the inventory in stock and send the product to the customer.

One example of dropshipping is by selling T-shirts online.  You create your own designs and upload them to a company such as Printful, who will print them on demand and ship them to your customer.

Then you can set up a store on a platform such as Shopify, Etsy, Amazon, etc., and connect your account.  Then whenever a customer purchases a t-shirt from your amazon store, Printful will automatically print out your shirt and mail it to the customer.

I like to use Canva to create my printables, and I use commercial-free stock photos from Unsplash or Pixabay.  (Remember, you should never use photos you find on Google on a product that you intend to sell!  You can be sued.  If you use commercial-free photos, you can sell the product).

Vlogging has become very popular in the last few years with YouTube and TikTok gaining momentum all around the world.

Ryan from Ryan’s World (formerly Ryan’s Toys Review) makes $26 million a year from his channel, which originally started as an unboxing channel.  This means he would open toys and explain how they worked and what he thought about them, and play with them in the video.

Now the channel has expanded into a children’s channel and covers many other topics, as well.

In order to easily make an extra $1,000 a month on YouTube, you would need to build a big following.  You would need about half a million views on your videos to make an extra $1000 a month on YouTube through Google Adsense (the advertisements on your videos).

But you can also sell affiliate products to your subscribers as well, which could help you earn more money faster.  This is when you talk about and promote products and brands you love in your videos, then leave an affiliate link in your description of the video.

There is a lot of potential for earning $1,000 a month if you are good at taking pictures.

We have the Canon EOS Rebel SL3 / 250D and absolutely love it.  I use it to take pictures of our family but my husband used to travel and take pictures professionally before he joined the military.

As a military family living in a military town, there are many photographers in the area who are paid $200-300 to take homecoming photos when servicemembers come home from deployment.

We have paid someone to take baptism photos, newborn photos, and family Christmas photos.  Others will pay for homecoming and prom photos, graduation photos, birthday photos, engagement photos, and so much more.

Our wedding photographer was actually someone who was in the military with my husband who did photography on the side.  We paid him $1,200 for taking photos on our wedding day.

$1,200 for one day of work.  (And that was with our discount for being a friend.)

The most important key to being a great photographer is to make sure that you notice each little thing.  That is what makes a photographer so good at what they do.

One of my first jobs as a teen was working as a cashier at the brand new Super Target in my hometown.  Back then in 2002, the pay wasn’t so great.  But did you know that Target now pays their employees $15/hour?
